I have decided to start a new feature here called: “I ask Questions.” I have questions, lots of questions. Some of them are rhetorical and some I am just curious about. So if you can help by answering my questions please chime in!

So, without further delay, here is the inagural question in the “I ask Questions” series:

Why is the traffic always bad on Tuesdays? Doesn’t seem to matter what time of day I drive into Vancouver on a Tuesday traffic is always slow. Anyone know why this happens? What is about Tuesdays?

  1. Here’s my theory, which is based on transit, actually–the bus is always busier Tuesdays too.

Some people work Monday to Friday, but lots of people work other shifts with Mondays or Fridays off. I think people are more likely to call in sick on Mondays & take Mondays off. But Tuesdays–everybody’s got to work Tuesdays.

Also, just thought of this… Stores usually close earlyish on Tuesdays, so everybody’s getting their shopping done before 6 pm, creating more concentrated traffic that might be more spread out on Thursdays or Fridays when the stores are open later.

  2. I notice it mostly in the morning when I am coming into Vancouver. The highway is always backed up. I think you are right about the Mondays and Fridays off for sure!

  3. I think there are a lot of people (like me), who work non-traditional hours. Vancouver seems to be a haven for “other-than” status, as in other than normal. Many people work 9 day fortnights, 12 hour shifts, 4 day weeks, do tele-commuting or are self-employed. Mondays are a good day to take off to Whistler, so Tuesdays are the new Monday…….at least here on the Left Coast.
