Okay, some things are no-brainers. Such is the case of ex-fire chief Ray Saurrette of Squamish. Apparently, he was fired because he didn’t want the volunteer firefighters to consume alcohol, at the firehall, before, after or during their shifts. Because he objected to the consumption of alcohol he lost the support of his employees.
Now, I don’t know about you but if there is a fire at my house I want the firefighters who show up to be sober and able to put out the fire. The main reason given for the consumption of alcohol amongst the firefighters is to create camaraderie. Last time I checked all sorts of groups need to bond in order to work well together and they don’t need to drink alcohol in order to do it.
I can only hope that saner heads prevail and ex-Chief Saurrette gets his job back. It seems that he is the only thinking clearly in this situation.
